Maximum Style, Minimal Impact

Damson Madder was born out of a desire to make exciting designs, responsibly. Responsible practices, transparency and small batch production are the beating heart of everything we do.

Damson Madder is run by a small, proudly female-led team out of our studio in North London.

Our Founder, Emma, started the brand in 2020 after years of working in the fashion industry, seeing first hand some of the bad practices that went on behind the scenes.

Being a fashion brand comes with inherent challenges, and although there is always further to go in ensuring the work we do as a business mitigates its impact on the environment, and communities across the world; Damson has always aimed to do things differently.

At the centre of everything, is quality. Damson Madder garments are designed to last; to be worn and reworn - we hope that the care that goes into every garment ensures that Damson pieces aren’t bought for one occasion and then discarded, ending up in landfill.

How We Make Our Product

It takes a while...

Our collections are designed 12-18 months ahead of launch. We move slowly, taking the time to develop our products, build strong, mutually respectful relationships with suppliers and factories, and ensure the very best quality and fit of every garment we produce; Damson garments are built to last.

We don’t bow to fleeting trends; instead making garments that fit and flatter; each with a unique detail or sign off that makes every piece feel special. Our garments are made to be worn again, and again (and again!)

We release limited collections of around 15-35 styles per drop, and we only make what we think we will sell; with an average of 100-350 pieces per style; minimising waste and ensuring excess stock doesn’t end up in landfill.

Organic Cotton

All organic cotton in our collections is GOTS certified, using 88% less water and 62% less energy, and is grown without harmful chemicals or pesticides. This protects both the environment and local biodiversity while ensuring the cotton is softer and more durable. The careful production process also extends the lifespan of each garment, making them longer-lasting than conventional cotton.

Selvedge Denim

Our Selvedge jeans are made from Italian fabric woven on traditional shuttle looms, creating less waste. The fabric’s "self-edge" prevents fraying, and as you wear them, the denim softens and molds to your body. Over time, the jeans develop unique creases, becoming entirely your own.

Recycled Cotton

Outside of cotton, we also use recycled fibres. Our aim is to deliver the highest possible percentage of recycled contents in every garment, without sacrificing the quality of each style. We use a mix of post-consumer waste (e.g. used garments) and industrial waste within our recycled contents.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ LYOCELL

We support eco-consious materials, and are continuing to increase the use of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibre in our styles. This is a certtified material derived from sustainable wood and pulp and Lenzing has been consistently recognized as one of the best performing companies worldwide in Canopy’s Hot Button Report.LENZING™ ECOVERO™ compared to uncertified lyocell uses at least 50% less water and CO2 air emissions, reducing the impact on climate change.

Deadstock Selvedge

Our Selvedge jeans use Italian fabric that is created on traditional shuttle looms. The process is slower and achieves less waste. Selvedge gets its name from its “self-edge”: the finished edges that do not fray - you can spot a selvedge fabric by the edge of the fabric showing on the inseam. Selvedge denim is less treated and as you wear them, the jeans will become entirely your own. The denim will soften to fit to your body, and crease in wash the more you wear.

Trims, Tags & Packaging

We have removed non-essential metal trims and rivets across all of our denim products, to eliminate unnecessary barriers to biodegrading. We also use embroidery for branding where possible to minimise non-compostable trims.

All of our back neck labels and care labelling will be 100% recycled by 2024. Our garment swing tags are made from 100% recycled cardboard and your Damson pieces are shipped to you in 100% recycled paper mailing bags, with the garments inside housed safely in compostable poly bags.

Who Makes Our Product

Our Factory Partners...

Our factory partners are an extension of our team, and we have worked hard to build strong, long-term relationships with all our global suppliers. We work with twelve key supply partners across Turkey, China and India.

We are lucky enough to have a part of our team based in Turkey who conduct weekly visits to our factory partners there. Globally, all our factories are audited regularly by a third party, with audits being conducted both semi-announced and unannounced.

We believe in full transparency, and as such our factory partners are published on the Open Supply Hub - a collaborative database used by retailers building visibility around their global supply chain. We have mapped out all our Tier 1 and 2 facilities, and are working on publishing Tier 3 and 4 by the end of 2025.We are also signatories to the Transparency Pledge alongside other retailers, to further uphold our values of visibility and transparent business practices.

Code Of Conduct

Alongside our third party audits, our partner factories must all adhere to the Damson Madder code of conduct which lays out the basic foundations that all partners must comply with. We aim to ensure that the rights of workers in our supply chain are respected and protected. Prohibition of all forms of modern slavery, including child labour, forced labour, bonded labour and the protection of human rights is fundamental to who Damson Madder are and what Damson Madder stands for.

This forms a key part of Damson Madder’s Code of Conduct.
• Employment is freely chosen
• Working conditions are safe and hygienic
• No discrimination is practised
• Regular employment is provided
• No harsh or in-humane treatment is allowed
• Child labour shall never be used
• Working hours are not excessive
• Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected

How To Care For Our Product

We know that the responsibility for limiting our garments' negative impact on the world around us falls squarely on our shoulders, and not on the end consumer. Our clothes are designed and made with longevity in mind, however there are a few simple things you can do to extend the life cycle of your Damson garments, care for them with minimal impact; and make responsible choices on what to do with those pieces you eventually do part ways with.

Wash Less

Spot clean when you can get another wear out of a garment, and always wash full loads. Frequent washing wears clothes out over time; wear it one more time and protect the fibres and colours.

Wash Cold

Heating water uses 90% of the energy needed to run a washing machine. Washing clothes at 30 or below not only saves energy, but also protects your garments from shrinking, fading and releasing microfibres.

Wash Inside Out
A simple but effective way to minimise wear and tear; ensuring the fibre structure on the visible surface is rinsed more gently.

Wash With Eco-Detergent & Skip The Fabric Softener

Traditional detergents and softeners often contain microplastics and environmentally harmful toxins. Switch to an eco-conscious detergent and you might also protect your skin from irritation, and your clothes from harmful chemicals.

Donate Or Sell-On

We hope you’ll never be through with your favourite piece of Damson clothing, but when you are; ensure you donate or sell-on garments that have life left in them, so someone else can enjoy them where you left off.

Recycle
If you and your long-loved Damson piece have had a little too much fun together, look up your nearest recycling point or textile bank who will process and recycle clean & dry clothing and textiles for free.
